Description | Sommerville: Antique paste cameo, color sapphire. A Lion, emblem of power. Superb iridescence. Antique Pastes, Case WWW. Vermeule: Glass paste, very iridescent color originally bluish green. Cameo. (Unmounted) A lion walking to left. He may be wearing a radiate crown. He is identical with those animals occuring on the reverse of coins of the Emperor Caracalla (A.D. 211-217). Graeco-Roman. |
